Vnukovo International Airport

Vnukovo International Airport is located around 17 miles to the south of Moscow. It is one of the three main airports that serve Moscow, the others being Domodedovo International and Sheremetyevo International Airports. Vnukovo has around 10 million passengers passing through its doors with 150,000 aircraft movements. The airport was built during World War II and converted to civilian use shortly afterwards. The first passenger flight was in 1956. The airport was expanded for the 1980 Moscow Olympics with further massive expansion in 2003. In 2004 a new terminal was opened to handle international flights and in 2005 the Aeroexpress was opened to provide fast rail network links to Kiyevsky Rail Terminal in the centre of Moscow taking 35 minutes. More expansion is planned for the future. The airport has two runways; the first measuring 3,060m and the second 3,000m both constructed of concrete.
